Online Subscriptions
When the decision was finally made to rebuild the site from scratch, the first thing billfrog.com did was evaluate the types of content that SavTrav Productions wanted on their site: articles, photographs, questions & answers, special deals, a calendar, a subscription form, a links page, and various other small content items. Each type of conent was evaluated for what it contained. Articles, for instance, contain a title (sometimes two lines), an author, a volume and issue number, and the actual text. A back-end database was created in MySQL to store the various types of content. Now that there was a place to store the content, an interface had to be written to enable the SavTrav Productions office staff to add content to the database, and edit and delete content already in the database. Billfrog.com used PHP to write a custom web-based Content Management System (CMS) for the office staff to use with minimal knowledge of HTML. By using a PHP Content Management System with a MySQL database backend, billfrog.com eliminated the need for SavTrav Productions to spend money each month to have their website maintained - they could perform the work themselves. |
